Running a school and improving standards can be challenging.

Pressures of meeting teaching standards and deadlines can be daunting and overwhelming for teachers.

These pressures can often overshadow the need to improve literacy skills across whole school curriculum.

My experience gained from years in education will allow us to engage with and understand your school stakeholders’ expectations and ambitions.

My advice and guidance will enable your teaching faculty to develop and engage in literacy-based lesson planning and teaching.

By developing teachers’ approaches towards students’ literacy achievement will ultimately pave the way for success in their classrooms and your school as a whole.

How Can I Help You?

Student literacy improvement in Vietnam

Student Literacy Improvement

After participating in Literacy workshops, all faculty will be able to understand and implement the benefits of literacy strategies for their students.

By meeting with your Faculty leadership and coordinators we can help you work towards your school’s mission and vision.  Understanding your educational ethos can help you to meet and exceed your school’s goals.

What your school will come away with is confidence, motivation and willingness to take risks to gain higher student achievement.

The areas we can focus on include:

  • Creating an understanding amongst your faculty members of the importance of improving literacy.
  • Embedding reading fluency teaching time into the whole school curriculum to make it happen successfully.
  • Enabling disciplinary literacy strategies to be incorporated into teaching time across all subject areas to achieve reading for progression.
  • Creating a culture of trust based teacher observation to foster new and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Raising awareness of how to create and maintain a balanced  emotionally literate culture for teachers and students.

Mission and Vision

My mission is to work in collaboration with leaders and teachers through coaching, mentoring and workshops. These partnerships will embed a whole school culture of reading and provide research-based literacy strategies.

My vision is to be a leader in helping schools  raise literacy standards and bring success to  students and teachers. I aim to achieve this by sharing my experience and knowledge with a professional but likeable approach.

What Others Say

Joanna is an inspirational curriculum and pedagogical leader. Working with Joanna for three years at the American International School of Vietnam provided me with many opportunities to learn from her expertise.

She provided engaging and informative professional development sessions to all staff surrounding approaches to teaching and learning and provided support to staff in implementing TOK and other core elements of the IB into their classrooms.

Her understanding of effective whole school curriculum as well as strategies for teaching and learning make her an ideal consultant to support schools to establish mission and vision statements, to vertically and horizontally align their curriculum and to ensure teachers receive effective professional development within an international setting.

~Hannah Thomas

TOK Coordinator, Chester International School, UK

Joanna draws on her wealth of experience in diverse learning environments to guide others with great skill and diplomacy. She has a genuine understanding of the needs of educators.

Her positive and energetic approach, combined with a pragmatic understanding of the challenges of doing PD while working, makes her workshops a valuable experience.

~James Joubert

School Director, Thalun International School, Yangon

Ms. Joanna is a great manager for having confidence in the team’s ability to work independently. I also appreciate how she delegates tasks and ensures that our workloads are well-balanced.

She treats colleagues and library staff with respect and allows us to express our thoughts and emotions. Besides work, she is really observant and always willing to help us in difficult situations.

~Phuong Le

Library Assistant, American International School Vietnam (AISVN)

Jo is as enthusiastic about her work as she is professional and knowledgeable. She comes up with creative and innovative solutions that prioritizes student growth and well being above all else.

~Viki Yang

Former Principal, American International School Vietnam (AISVN)

Joanna Parker as the Extended Essay Coordinator helped coach me through writing the IB Extended Essay. From coming up with a topic, finding a supervisor, and researching sources, to going over multiple drafts to ensure that I would get a good score. With her help, I was able to get a B on my Extended Essay.

She also was the supervisor for multiple of my CAS activities, making sure that I have every reflection completed to pass this. As a librarian, she helped me multiple times by looking over my IAs to make sure that I got my citations correct and that my sources are accurate and relevant.

She was very helpful in getting me through the perils and hardships of the IB program. I don’t think that without her I would have gotten the score I got!

Teacher professional development in Vietnam

Literacy training, coaching and mentoring for all leaders and teachers.

Senior leaders prioritised reading. They invested in additional, bespoke help for struggling readers and training for staff who taught reading. Leaders made sure that this help was part of a well-thought-out curriculum and a wider school reading strategy for all pupils to become proficient readers. They communicated this commitment to all staff, raising the visibility of reading across the school so that all staff knew the part they played in supporting struggling readers. (Ofsted)
